How To Hang A Banner Effectively
We’ve all seen them, sagging, miserable-looking banners that are blowing around in the wind. Here at Aura Print, we know all this can be avoided when you know how to hang a banner correctly.
Banners are found almost everywhere, from indoor pole pocket banners to outdoor mesh scaffolding banners. With the variety of different banners available, there is no single way to hang up a banner. Instead, we have outlined the different methods that can be used to hang a banner to promote your business and events.
How to hang a banner outdoors
Outdoor banners are found absolutely everywhere, from walls and chain-link fences to large-scale construction sites. As these banners are outside, they do face additional challenges, ranging from the weather to the surface they are attached to.
How to hang banners on a brick wall
Fixing a banner to a brick wall is one of the most popular ways to display an outdoor banner. The wall provides a strong surface to attach the banner and helps to protect it from being blown by the wind. It is best to choose a wall that can be screwed into, as this will be required to keep your banner in place.
The best banner type to hang banners on a brick wall is a PVC vinyl banner with hems and eyelets. First position your banner on a wall to be displayed. Then use the washers, plugs and screws to screw through the eyelets and into the wall.
We recommend your banner have multiple eyelets along each edge to provide more fixing points for when you come to hang banners on a brick wall. Multiple eyelet fixings provide additional strength to your banner, only fixing the corners of your banner reduces the strength and makes it more likely to be blown away by the wind.
How to hang banners on a fence
When it comes to hang banners on a fence, you should consider how the weather will affect your banner. As fences have gaps in them, the wind can easily pass through. Your banner should be able to withstand this which is why we recommend a mesh material for outdoor banners attached to a fence.
To hang banners on a fence, line up your banner so the eyelets match up to the railing and use either a cable tie or bungee cord to secure the banner in place. Make sure to use multiple fixing points on your banner to provide additional support for your banner and prevent it from drooping over time.
How to hang a banner with rope
Hanging your banner with rope allows you to attach your banner to a range of different surfaces, such as railings, posts, and trees. The rope provides your banner with additional flexibility to bend and curve to fit around an unconventional surface, whilst also being easy to adjust and manoeuvre.
Thread your rope through each of the eyelets, weaving the rope through each hole. After you have threaded your banner you can now hang it up. For fences and railings, tie each end of the rope to each end to hold your banner up and in position. For curved surfaces, such as a tree or post, wrap your banner around and secure tightly at the back with the remainder of the rope.
How to hang a banner indoors
Indoor banners do have their benefits. Being inside prevents these banners from battling with the weather and helps to keep their shape and appearance pristine. Banners displayed inside are slightly more limited in where they can be fixed and often fall into one of three categories: Ceiling Suspended, Floor Standing, and Pole Pocket.
How to hang a banner indoors: Ceiling Suspended
Ceiling suspended banners are those that hang from the ceiling, often seen above shop displays and used for informative banners. This method is best suited for hemmed banners with eyelets, the hem provides a weight to help keep the banner’s shape and the eyelets provide somewhere to fix the banner.
Simply thread a cord attached to the ceiling through the banner eyelet's metal rings and adjust the cord length until you are happy with where the banner is positioned.
How to hang a banner indoors: Floor Standing
Floor standing banners, such as pull up banners and pop-up banners, come with their own fixing in the form of a stand. These banners are fixed within the stand which, keeps the banner taunt and provides a strong base for display purposes.
For pull up banners, position the frame on the floor and extend it to reveal the banner inside. For pop-up banners, build your frame and attach the banner to the finished skeleton.
How to hang a banner indoors: Pole Pocket
Pole pocket banners have additional loops along the edges of the banner, designed to be threaded through a pole. Before you know how to hang a banner as an indoor pole pocket, you must first determine the size of your banner and the pole pocket required. Measure the distance between your poles, this will be the size of your banner. Then measure the diameter of your poles, this will determine the size of the pole pocket required.
Once your pole pocket arrives, all you need to do is slide the poles through the banner loops to fix your banner in place.
