The key feature of triplex business card printing is its triple-layer makeup. Making up the first and third layers of our Colour Core business cards is a sheet of white sticker paper. This allows you to print any design with no nasty colour changes. Then in the center is where the magic happens. A double thick stack of G.F Smith Colorplan paper. The white sticker material is first stuck onto individual sheets of Colorplan. These sheets of Colorplan are then combined to create the coloured core business cards we all know and love.

How Are Triplex Business Cards Different From Duplex Business Cards?+
Duplex business cards are made by bonding two layers together to create a thicker card stock. Triplex business cards use three layers, sandwiching 540gsm GF Smith Colorplan between two fully printable outer white layers to create a substantial 800gsm card with a visible coloured core.
You can still print fully edge-to-edge on the outer layers, so the white stock is not visible from the face of the card. Instead, the colour core reveals itself from the side profile, where the coloured middle layer sits between two fine white outer layers to create the layered triplex edge effect.
Can I Choose the Colour of the Core?+
Yes. Triplex business cards are available with 16 different colour core options designed to complement a wide range of branding styles, from subtle neutrals through to brighter statement colours. The coloured middle layer remains visible around the edge of the card, allowing the core colour to become part of the overall design rather than just the printed artwork.
Which Finishes Work Best on Triplex Business Cards?+
Metallic foils and raised spot UV are popular finishing choices for triplex business cards because they add extra contrast, texture, and visual depth alongside the exposed colour core. Metallic foils are available in 12 colours, allowing you to pair complementary foil and core combinations for a more cohesive overall finish.
Raised spot UV adds a clear raised gloss varnish over selected design elements to create extra texture and tactile contrast against the stock. Both metallic foils and raised spot UV require soft touch lamination, which adds a smooth finish that works naturally with the heavier card stock. Matt and gloss laminations are also available, alongside optional rounded corners for a softer edge profile.
Can I Print and Foil on Both Sides of a Triplex Business Card?+
Yes. Both outer white layers can be fully printed and foiled, allowing edge-to-edge artwork, metallic foil details, and additional design elements across both sides of the card without affecting the exposed colour core.
We have 12 metallic foils available to choose from, all of which can be physically examined by ordering a metallic foil sample pack. They are often paired with complementary core colours to create a more cohesive overall finish. From the face of the card, the white stock is largely hidden by the printed artwork, while the coloured middle layer remains visible around the edge profile to create the layered triplex effect.
Are Triplex Business Cards More Durable Than Standard Business Cards?+
Yes. Their 800gsm layered construction makes them more resistant to bending, creasing, and general wear from repeated handling compared to standard business card stocks. Laminated finishes can also add extra surface protection for cards carried regularly in wallets, pockets, or card holders.

Both orders included custom foiling (which I could not find for a better price point anywhere, especially here in the US). We graphic designers know that human creativity is the core of what we do, which is why I was so appreciative that I was working with fellow humans through this process, and not through some AI. Further, the shipping process was spectacular. Whereas many US-based businesses were offering week-long SHIPPING times (excluding printing), Aura offers as its default UPS Express shipping for the US. As a result, their shipments have a 2-day transit time (for me, in a smaller city, but would be overnight for major metros), and are guaranteed by UPS. Having traversed the world of e-commerce shipping, nothing brings me greater relief than to see UPS as a shipping option. Additionally, and quite importantly for my fellow US designers, because my order consisted of what could reasonably be described as printed marketing materials, they should not be subject to tariffs. The shipping department at Aura made sure that the customs information was filled out correctly, leaving me with no duties to pay, for which I am eternally grateful. Awed by the quality of my save-the-dates, proceeding with the rest of my suite was a no-brainer, which included a main invite, detail card, and reply card. The turnaround time was similarly rapid, and the quality of the work simply unmatched. To all designers, but especially those in the US, do not let the idea of an international shipper stop you.
