As every product is custom printed to order, turnaround times can vary depending on artwork approval, quantity, finishing options and the complexity of the project. More specialist products and finishes, including duplex, triplex, die cut and foiled items, will usually require additional production time due to the extra processes involved.

Once you approve your proof, our team will email you a dispatch estimate for your specific order. This estimate covers the production time from proof approval to dispatch and does not include courier delivery time.

Most certificates are printed at A4 certificate size, because it feels familiar, professional, and easy to frame. If you’re printing award certificates, business accreditation certificates, achievement certificates, employee recognition certificates, or school certificates, A4 is usually the safest choice.
At Aura Print, we can also print A5 certificates, A3 certificates, square formats, and custom sizes if your project needs something different. A5 can work well for smaller awards, children’s certificates, inserts, or informal recognition pieces, while A3 is a stronger choice if the certificate will be presented on stage, photographed, or displayed.
We offer portrait, landscape, square, and custom die-cut certificate shapes, so you’re not boxed into a standard layout. If your certificate needs to fit a frame, folder, presentation pack, or award ceremony setup, it’s worth checking those dimensions before placing your order.
What Paper Stock Works Best For Certificates?+
For certificates, we usually recommend choosing a stock that feels substantial enough to mark the achievement properly. 350gsm to 400gsm tends to be the most popular weight range because it feels sturdy in hand without becoming awkward to frame, store, or present.
Smooth stocks such as silk or uncoated are popular for clean certificate artwork, logos, signatures, borders, and text. If you want something more traditional or characterful, specialist papers can work beautifully too, especially for awards, formal accreditations, luxury certificates, and commemorative pieces.
If you think you might need to write on the certificates later, uncoated or suitable textured stocks are usually the better choice. If you want lamination or foil, we’ll need to use an applicable stock such as silk, gloss, uncoated, recycled, or Colorplan.

Can You Print Individual Names on Each Certificate?+
Yes, we can personalise certificates using data merge, which is ideal if every certificate needs a different name, award title, course date, grade, department, or achievement.
You can supply a spreadsheet with the variable information, and we’ll use it to create individually personalised certificates from your design. This is really useful for training providers, schools, colleges, universities, workplaces, sports clubs, charities, and event organisers who need a batch of certificates that all follow the same layout but contain different recipient or award details.
The key thing is to make sure your spreadsheet is clean and clearly labelled before sending it over. For example, use separate columns for first name, surname, award title, date, or any other variable text. That helps us merge the information accurately and reduces the chance of mistakes before proofing.
Can I Write on My Certificates After They Arrive?+
That depends on the paper and finish you choose.
If you need to write names, dates, signatures, or award details by hand after delivery, we’d recommend choosing a paper stock that is suitable for handwriting, such as uncoated or another uncoated, non-laminated stock. These surfaces are much easier to write on with everyday pens and are usually the safest choice for certificates that need manual completion.
Laminated certificates are more difficult to write on because the surface is sealed. Some specialist pens may work, but we wouldn’t recommend relying on standard biro or gel pens for laminated surfaces. Foiled certificates also include soft-touch lamination as standard on the foiled side, so if handwriting is important, it’s better to plan where that writing will go before ordering.
If every certificate needs a name or award detail, data merge is usually a better option than handwriting because we can print the personalisation directly onto each certificate.
Can I add foil to certificates?+
Absolutely! We can add metallic foil to certificates on suitable paper stocks, and it’s a great way to make awards, accreditations, and certificates of authenticity feel more important.
Foil works especially well for certificate borders, seals, logos, award titles, crests, signatures, and small decorative details. At Aura Print, we offer 12 foil colours on applicable stocks, with soft-touch laminate included as standard on foiled certificates to help the foil apply properly. This is perfect if you’re looking for bronze, silver, and gold foil certificate printing for award levels.
We also offer raised spot UV if you want a different kind of highlighted finish. If you’re not sure which foil colour will suit your certificate design, you can browse our foil colours before settling on the right colour.
Should I Laminate My Certificates?+
Lamination can help protect certificates from handling, marking, and general wear, which is useful if they’re being passed around at events, presented on stage, displayed, or kept as long-term records.
At Aura Print, we offer matt, gloss, and soft-touch lamination on applicable stocks. Matt gives a lower-shine finish, gloss creates a brighter look, and soft touch gives a smoother, more refined surface. If your certificate includes foil, soft-touch lamination will be included as part of the foil process.
That said, lamination is not always the right choice. If recipients need to write on the certificate later, or if you want the certificate to feel more traditional, an unlaminated stock may be better. If you’re unsure, think about how the certificate will be used: framed and displayed, handed out at an event, written on by hand, or kept in a folder.
Can Certificates Be Printed in Custom Shapes?+
Of course. We can print certificates in standard portrait or landscape formats, square formats, or custom die-cut shapes.
Most certificates are rectangular because they need to fit standard frame sizes, but custom shapes can work well for special awards, branded recognition pieces, children’s certificates, event certificates, and presentation keepsakes. We offer rounded corners too, with 6mm or 16mm options available if you want a softer finish without going for a fully custom shape.
If you’re planning a die-cut certificate, the artwork needs to be set up properly with a clear cut line, bleed, and safe zones. Our guide on how to supply artwork for kiss and die cutting explains how shaped artwork should usually be prepared.
How Long Will it Take to Print My Certificates?+
Our quickest standard certificate turnaround is 2 working days from proof approval, depending on the paper, quantity, artwork, and finishing options selected.
If your certificates include foil, lamination, die-cutting, rounded corners, or more involved checks, production may take a little longer. We also offer a rush service that can expedite your order by 1 working day, but we ask customers to get in touch before selecting that option so we can make sure the turnaround can be guaranteed.
If you’re ordering certificates for an award ceremony, training deadline, school event, graduation-style presentation, or corporate recognition day, it’s best to allow time for artwork checks, proof approval, production, delivery, and any internal admin you need to do before the event.

How Should I Set Up My Certificate Artwork for Print?+
Certificate artwork should be supplied at the correct size, with bleed, safe zones, and all important text kept away from the trim edge.
That’s especially important for certificates because they often include borders, seals, signatures, logos, crests, and centred layouts. If a border sits too close to the edge, small production movement can make it look uneven once trimmed. We’d recommend giving certificate borders and fine decorative details a little breathing room so the finished piece looks balanced.
If your certificate includes foil, raised spot UV, die-cutting, rounded corners, or data merge fields, those details should be clearly supplied and explained to our pre-press team. If you’re sending a spreadsheet for personalised names, make sure the placeholder area in the artwork has enough space for the longest name in your spreadsheet.

I started a small business and wanted to get some...I started a small business and wanted to get some custom business cards made. I didn't want to go with the average run of the mill business cards, so I requested some free samples to see what my options were. I learned about card thickness, soft touch vs velvet touch, foil printing, QR codes. I then used AI to make a graphic of my business card and sent it out to get quotes. I dont know about graphic programs and what it takes to make a business card, so when they wanted me to make overlays of what i wanted foil printed, I had no Idea how to do that. But Alex, from Aura Print, said they had a great in house design team that could handle it for a small fee. So i had them take my business card, do what they needed to do to it so they could print it. Alex kept me up to date with the progress, sent me graphics to approve, and then it was off to print. I was a bit worried about shipping to the USA from the UK, but it arrived with in a few days from shipping.

I custom designed an invitation suite for a retirement party, and first worked with Aura on my save-the-dates before doing a larger order. I was blown away by the lightning-fast proofing process, and then the incredibly quick printing. Both orders included custom foiling (which I could not find for a better price point anywhere, especially here in the US). We graphic designers know that human creativity is the core of what we do, which is why I was so appreciative that I was working with fellow humans through this process, and not through some AI. Further, the shipping process was spectacular. Whereas many US-based businesses were offering week-long SHIPPING times (excluding printing), Aura offers as its default UPS Express shipping for the US. As a result, their shipments have a 2-day transit time (for me, in a smaller city, but would be overnight for major metros), and are guaranteed by UPS. Having traversed the world of e-commerce shipping, nothing brings me greater relief than to see UPS as a shipping option. Additionally, and quite importantly for my fellow US designers, because my order consisted of what could reasonably be described as printed marketing materials, they should not be subject to tariffs. The shipping department at Aura made sure that the customs information was filled out correctly, leaving me with no duties to pay, for which I am eternally grateful. Awed by the quality of my save-the-dates, proceeding with the rest of my suite was a no-brainer, which included a main invite, detail card, and reply card. The turnaround time was similarly rapid, and the quality of the work simply unmatched. To all designers, but especially those in the US, do not let the idea of an international shipper stop you. I've never known a more professional company, period, and will certainly be reordering whenever my next printing job arises. SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES!
