The added thickness makes duplex business cards more rigid than standard business cards, helping them better withstand bending, creasing, and repeated handling. Laminated finishes can also help protect the surface from scuffs and marks, especially for cards carried regularly in wallets and pockets.
Gloss, matt, and soft-touch laminations all work well on duplex business cards and add extra surface protection alongside the already rigid stock. Gloss laminate helps colours appear more vibrant, matt gives a flatter printed finish, while soft-touch lamination creates a smoother surface and also allows for Metallic Foiling.
Textured and uncoated papers create a more natural finish, while painted edges become far more noticeable thanks to the visible thickness of the card itself.
Painted edges add colour along the exposed edge of the card rather than on the printed surface. Duplex business cards are much thicker than standard cards, making the coloured edge far more visible in the hand and when stacked.
We offer 17 painted edge colours, including metallic gold, metallic copper, fluorescent pink, and turquoise, making it easy to either match accent colours within the artwork or create a stronger contrast around the edge of the card itself. Duplex business cards look great with metallic foil applied, as the heavier stock feels more deliberate and the foil visually prominent. Smaller foil details on logos, typography, or key design elements often stand out more cleanly than large areas of foil coverage.
Foil can be applied to any side finished with soft-touch lamination, whether that is single or double sided, and we offer a choice of 12 foil colours. Metallic foils can also be paired with painted edges for a more eye-catching finished card. Sharpies, markers, and pens can all react differently depending on the material selected, so the best way to test suitability is with real-world use. Duplex business cards are created by bonding two sheets together, with both the gluing and guillotining processes completed manually. Slight movement can occur during finishing, which means designs relying on artwork lining up perfectly from one side to the other, as well as borders close to the edge of the card, can become far more noticeable if small alignment shifts occur.
Layouts with comfortable spacing and designs that do not depend on perfect edge alignment tend to work more reliably across thicker duplex stocks.
