Blue Foil Bookmarks
Blue has a strong cobalt and royal-blue character with a noticeably cool reflection. Bright light can bring out an almost electric blue across the foil, before it falls back into deeper, darker blue as the viewing angle moves away.
Green Foil Bookmarks
Green has a clear, saturated metallic colour with bright emerald-like reflections. Stronger light makes the surface appear fresher and brighter, while lower reflections deepen into a darker, richer green without introducing much blue or yellow.
Black Chrome Bookmarks
Black Chrome is the darkest finish in the range, staying in deep onyx and gunmetal tones through most viewing angles. Where the light catches it, selected areas can flash bright silver-white, creating sharp reflective highlights against the much darker surrounding foil rather than lighting the whole finish evenly.
Holographic has a bright silver-metallic base that can appear strongly silver at some viewing angles, then break into saturated bands of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet and pink as the light moves across it. Several colours can appear across the same foiled area at once, while other angles return much of the finish to silver, so no single still image captures its full appearance.
Choosing the Paper Type for Your Foil Bookmarks
Paper choice affects the printed background, thickness and edge appearance of a foil bookmark. It does not change the colour or reflective behaviour of the metallic foil itself. Any side receiving foil is covered with soft touch laminate, while an unlaminated side retains more of the paper’s natural surface and texture.

Silk paper gives your design a clean white base with a smooth coated surface and reliable colour reproduction. It has less surface shine than gloss paper while retaining a cleaner, more uniform appearance than uncoated stocks, making it a versatile base for designs that combine full-colour print with metallic foil.

As every product is custom printed to order, turnaround times can vary depending on artwork approval, quantity, finishing options and the complexity of the project. More specialist products and finishes, including duplex, triplex, die cut and foiled items, will usually require additional production time due to the extra processes involved.

Once you approve your proof, our team will email you a dispatch estimate for your specific order. This estimate covers the production time from proof approval to dispatch and does not include courier delivery time.

Foil bookmarks can be configured far beyond a standard rectangular format. Choose standard or custom dimensions, die cut shapes and paper weights up to extra-thick colour core, with foil on one or both sides and finishing such as drill holes, rounded corners or painted edges. You can also split your order across several designs or personalise every bookmark.
Standard Size, Custom Size Or Die Cut Shape
Choose one of our standard bookmark sizes for a familiar format, enter custom dimensions for different proportions, or choose die cutting when the outer shape needs to follow your design.
52x148mm is the shorter standard size, while 52x210mm gives you more vertical space.
Custom sizing lets you change the width or length while retaining a straight-cut outline.
Die cut bookmarks can follow characters, logos, curves or other custom artwork outlines.
Foil On One Side Or Both Sides
Choose foil on one side when reflective detail is only needed on one face of the bookmark, or foil both sides when your design uses metallic elements across the front and reverse.
Foil can be applied to the front, reverse or both sides.
If both sides are foiled, choose the same foil colour on each side or a different foil colour for the front and reverse.
Each foiled side requires separate foil artwork and must receive soft touch lamination before the foil is applied.
Choose Your Bookmark Thickness
Paper weight changes the thickness and firmness of your finished bookmark. Our foil bookmarks start at 350gsm for the slimmest profile, with 540gsm and 700gsm options for a thicker, more rigid feel. At 800gsm, colour core is the thickest option, combining white printable faces with a contrasting coloured centre through the cut edge.
350gsm gives you a solid, standard bookmark thickness with the slimmest profile in the range.
540gsm and 700gsm let you increase the thickness and firmness in stages, depending on how substantial you want the bookmark to feel.
800gsm colour core gives you the thickest construction, with white printable faces and a contrasting coloured centre visible through the cut edge.
Add a Drill Hole to Your Bookmark
Add a drill hole when you want to attach an accessory such as a tassel or ribbon to your bookmark. You can request the position to suit your artwork and how you want the bookmark to hang, provided the drill hole can be positioned safely within the finished shape.
Position the drill hole to work with your artwork and the way you want the finished bookmark to hang.
Drill holes must be positioned at least 5mm from the cut edge so enough paper remains around the drilled area.
Drill holes on die cut bookmarks are subject to suitability, as the shape and requested hole position both affect how much material remains around the hole.
Choose Rounded Corners for Your Bookmark
Rounded corners give your bookmark a softer, more curved profile and can make the edges feel smoother as the bookmark is handled. Choose between two corner sizes to control how noticeable the curve is without creating a completely custom die cut shape.
Choose 6mm rounded corners when you want a softer outline while keeping more of the corner area available for borders, corner details or artwork that sits close to the edge.
Choose 16mm rounded corners when you want the curve to become a stronger part of the bookmark’s shape and your design leaves more open space around the corners.
If your artwork includes a border or elements positioned near the corners, check how the chosen radius will affect their shape and spacing before ordering.
Add Painted Edges to Your Bookmark
Painted edges add colour around the cut edge of your bookmark, turning the thickness of the paper into another part of the design. On our 700gsm bookmarks, you can choose from 17 colours to coordinate with or contrast against your printed artwork and metallic foil.
Choose from 17 painted edge colours, ranging from metallic and bright shades to deeper blues, greens, neutrals and black.
Painted edges are available on 700gsm bookmarks, giving the finish enough edge depth for the colour to show clearly.
The painted colour is most visible from the side and at an angle, revealing another detail as the bookmark is picked up, turned or handled.
Multiple Designs Or A Different Bookmark Every Time
Use Split Across Multiple Designs when you have different bookmark designs and want a quantity of each in the same order. Choose Variable Data Merge when every bookmark needs something different, such as a name, number or QR code.
Split Across Multiple Designs divides your total quantity between different bookmark designs while keeping the size, paper, foil and finishing options the same. Tell us how you want the quantity split when you send your artwork after ordering; if no split is specified, we’ll divide the quantity evenly between the designs.
All Prints Personalised via Data Merge can change names, quotes, QR codes, numbers or other information from one bookmark to the next. Use the Variable Data Merge template in the Artwork Requirements tab, with one row for each bookmark and clearly labelled columns for the information that changes.
Printing the Base Design
Every foiled product begins with the main artwork being printed, which is the first stage in how our digital foil printing process works. This creates the text, imagery and background elements that form the printed base layer. Printing this artwork first allows the metallic details to be positioned accurately as part of the finished design during the later stages.
Applying the Soft Touch Laminate
Once printed, the sheet is covered with an ultra-fine soft touch laminate. Any side receiving foil must be laminated so the toner can adhere cleanly before the metallic foil is applied. The laminate also protects the printed surface, prepares it for the foiling process and adds a smooth, velvety matt finish.
Overprinting the Foil Areas
Toner is then printed over the soft touch laminate using the separately supplied foil artwork. This overprint defines the areas intended to receive foil, such as lettering, linework, logos or selected design details. For every side being foiled, supply one print file and one separate foil file, following our foil artwork setup guide.
Applying the Metallic Foil
Finally, the printed sheets pass through one of our foiling machines, where the chosen metallic foil is bonded to the toner using heat and pressure, bringing the full printed design together. The sheets can then move on to cutting, creasing or any other required finishing.

Metallic foil adds reflective detail to selected parts of the design, making it useful when you want the bookmark itself to feel more considered than a standard printed insert.
Can I Combine Full-Colour Printing With Metallic Foil on the Same Bookmark?+
Yes. Metallic foil can be applied to selected details alongside a full-colour printed design, so you do not need to choose between colour printing and foil.
Titles, names, logos, borders, illustrations and other design elements can receive the reflective finish while the surrounding areas remain printed in full colour. The foil itself is opaque, so any printed detail directly underneath it will be covered by the metallic finish.
Avoid leaving white areas underneath the foil where possible, as normal movement between the print and foil can reveal a fine white edge if the two layers shift slightly during production.
Can I Have Foil on One Side or Both Sides of My Bookmark?+
Yes. You can choose metallic foil on the front, reverse or both sides of your bookmark.
Each foiled side can use one foil colour. If you foil both sides, you can use the same finish on each side or choose two different foils, with one on the front and another on the reverse. Any side receiving foil must have the soft touch laminate required for the foiling process.
Can Foil Bookmarks Be Custom Sized Or Die Cut?+
Yes. You can enter custom dimensions for a straight-cut bookmark or choose die cutting when you want the finished bookmark to follow a custom shape.
Custom dimensions let you change the width and length while keeping straight edges. Die cutting allows the outer edge to follow your own outline, giving you more freedom to create curved profiles, character shapes, logos or other designs where the shape becomes part of the bookmark itself.
Can I Order Multiple Bookmark Designs In One Order?+
Yes. You can split the total quantity across several bookmark designs rather than placing a separate order for every version.
For example, 250 bookmarks could be evenly split across five different designs. Select Split Across Multiple Designs when configuring your order and enter the number of designs required. A small additional setup charge applies to cover the extra production involved. Unless you tell us otherwise when sending your artwork after ordering, the total quantity will be divided evenly between each design.
Can Every Bookmark Be Personalised With Different Information?+
Yes. Select All Prints Personalised via Data Merge if information needs to change from one bookmark to the next.
This can include individual names, quotes, QR codes, serial numbers or other variable content. After ordering, supply a spreadsheet with one row for each bookmark and a clearly labelled column for each changing field.
Please check your spreadsheet carefully before sending it to us. We reproduce personalised data as supplied and cannot independently verify whether names, spellings, codes or other variable details are correct, as we have no reference for what each entry should be.

We’ll prepare the design around your chosen bookmark specification and send a digital proof for your approval before we begin production.
What Is the Minimum Order for Metallic Foil Bookmarks, and Can I Order Samples First?+
The minimum full order for metallic foil bookmarks is 50 copies, but you can order 5 sample copies if you want to see your own design produced before scaling up.
The samples go through the exact same production process as a full order, allowing you to assess your chosen paper, printed colours, metallic foil and finishing options on the finished bookmark. As the same setup and production stages are required for only five copies, the cost per bookmark is higher than on a larger run.
This gives you the option to check the finished result before moving on to an order of 50 copies or more.

I was blown away by the lightning-fast proofing process, and then the incredibly quick printing. Both orders included custom foiling (which I could not find for a better price point anywhere, especially here in the US). We graphic designers know that human creativity is the core of what we do, which is why I was so appreciative that I was working with fellow humans through this process, and not through some AI. Further, the shipping process was spectacular. Whereas many US-based businesses were offering week-long SHIPPING times (excluding printing), Aura offers as its default UPS Express shipping for the US. As a result, their shipments have a 2-day transit time (for me, in a smaller city, but would be overnight for major metros), and are guaranteed by UPS. Having traversed the world of e-commerce shipping, nothing brings me greater relief than to see UPS as a shipping option. Additionally, and quite importantly for my fellow US designers, because my order consisted of what could reasonably be described as printed marketing materials, they should not be subject to tariffs. The shipping department at Aura made sure that the customs information was filled out correctly, leaving me with no duties to pay, for which I am eternally grateful. Awed by the quality of my save-the-dates, proceeding with the rest of my suite was a no-brainer, which included a main invite, detail card, and reply card. The turnaround time was similarly rapid, and the quality of the work simply unmatched. To all designers, but especially those in the US, do not let the idea of an international shipper stop you.
