How Metallic Foil Is Applied to Bookmarks
Our metallic foil bookmarks are produced using a digital foiling process, which means the foil is applied without traditional metal dies. This gives you crisp detail, reliable alignment, and a clean metallic finish that works brilliantly for logos, titles and fine line artwork.
First, your bookmark is printed in full colour using CMYK digital printing to lock in the background artwork, gradients and any non-foil text. Once printed, the foiled side is finished with a soft touch laminate. This laminate is required on the foiled side because it creates the smooth, stable surface that the foil bonds to, and it also adds durability and a premium feel.
Next, the foil areas are created digitally using a specialist toner layer. A foil carrier film is then applied over the laminated surface, and controlled heat and pressure bond the metallic foil only to the toner areas. The unused foil lifts away cleanly, leaving a sharp, opaque metallic finish with strong reflectivity.
