We aim to produce and dispatch all orders as quickly and efficiently as possible. As every product is custom printed to order, turnaround times can vary depending on artwork approval, quantity, finishing options, and the complexity of the project.
Once your proof has been approved, the minimum production turnaround is 2 working days before dispatch. More specialist products and finishes including duplexed, triplexed, die cut, and foiled items will usually require additional production time due to the extra processes involved. Customers can view a more accurate turnaround estimate at any time by configuring their product within the online calculator.

The best shapes are the ones that look interesting but still work properly as bookmarks. Smooth curves, clear outlines, and sturdy sections usually cut much better than shapes with lots of tiny gaps, thin stems, sharp points, or fragile cut-out details.

What Is a Cut Line on a Die-Cut Bookmark?+
A cut line is the outline that tells our print finishers exactly where your bookmark should be cut.
For die-cut bookmarks, the cut line is just as important as the artwork itself. It needs to be supplied as a separate outline, usually as a 1pt stroke, so our production team can clearly see the finished shape. It should not be flattened into the artwork or hidden inside the design.
Think of it as the bookmark’s final silhouette. If the cut line is clean, smooth, and practical, the finished bookmark is much more likely to look right and feel strong enough to use. If the line is too detailed, too jagged, or too close to important artwork, we may need to suggest changes before production can begin.
For die-cut bookmark printing, we need your printed artwork and your cut line supplied clearly.
Your artwork should include bleed around the full shape, not just around a rectangle. That means the print needs to extend slightly beyond the cut line, following the outline of the bookmark, so you don’t end up with unwanted white edges after cutting. You’ll also need to keep important details safely inside the cut line. Names, faces, QR codes, logos, fine text, and small illustration details should not sit right on the edge. Die-cutting involves slight production movement, so a little safe space helps the finished bookmark look intentional rather than cramped.

How Detailed Can My Die-Cut Bookmarks Be?+
Die-cut bookmarks can be detailed, but they still need enough strength to work as bookmarks.
Very thin sections, tiny internal gaps, delicate points, and narrow joins can all cause problems for the end user. They may be harder to cut cleanly, easier to bend, or more likely to catch on pages. For example, a sword-shaped bookmark can look fantastic, but the blade still needs enough width to stay strong. A floral bookmark can work beautifully, but lots of tiny petal cut-outs may make the bookmark more fragile than you’d like.
If the bookmark is mostly for display or collector merch, you can sometimes be a little more adventurous. If it’s intended for everyday reading, we’d recommend keeping the shape smoother, stronger, and easy to slide between pages.
We’ll always look at the design practically as well as visually. If we think the shape needs simplifying, we’ll let you know before production begins.

Can My Die-Cut Bookmark Have Cut-Out Areas Inside the Design?+
Internal cut-outs can sometimes be possible, but they need to be kept simple and sturdy.
A small window, moon, star, or decorative opening may work well if there is enough paper around it to keep the bookmark strong. Lots of tiny internal cut-outs, lace-like details, or very narrow gaps can make the bookmark weaker and harder to produce neatly.
For bookmarks, we’d usually recommend focusing more on the outer shape. A strong silhouette often has more impact than lots of delicate internal cutting, especially once the bookmark is being used inside a book.
If you want internal cut-outs, send the shape to us before ordering. We can check whether the design is realistic and suggest a cleaner version if needed.
Will a Die-Cut Bookmark Still Work Properly Inside a Book?+
It can, as long as the shape has been designed with real use in mind.
A bookmark still needs to slide between pages, sit comfortably inside the book, and avoid catching when the book is opened or closed. Wide shapes, sharp protruding points, or delicate edges can look great on their own but may be less practical once used day to day.
If you’re creating author merch, book box extras, or bookmarks to sell, we’d suggest thinking about how the reader will actually use the product. A strong, recognisable outline with a few shaped details usually works better than something so intricate that it becomes awkward to handle.

Can Die-Cut Bookmarks Be Printed Double-Sided?+
Yes - we can print die-cut bookmarks single-sided or double-sided.
For double-sided die-cut bookmarks, the shape will be the same on both sides, so the reverse artwork needs to be designed around the same outline. This is especially important if your bookmark has an unusual silhouette, pointed areas, curves, or a shape that clearly has a “top” and “bottom”.
A lot of artists and authors choose the same artwork on both sides so the bookmark looks finished whichever way it sits in the book. You can also use the reverse for a quote, book title, author name, website, QR code, or small series detail.
We’d just recommend keeping important reverse-side details away from the cut line, as the same safe zone rules apply on both sides.
Can I Add a Hole to My Die-Cut Bookmarks for a Tassel?+
Of course! We can add a drilled hole if you want to attach ribbon, tassels, string, or packaging ties.
With die-cut bookmarks, the hole position needs a little more thought than it would on a standard rectangular bookmark. The hole should sit in a strong part of the design, away from thin sections, narrow points, and delicate cut edges. If the hole is too close to the edge, that area may be weaker or more likely to tear with use.
If you know you want a ribbon or tassel, build the hole position into the artwork from the beginning. That way, we can check the shape, design, and hole placement together rather than treating it as an afterthought.
A drilled hole can look especially good on fantasy, romance, memorial, author merch, and collector-style bookmarks when it’s part of the design rather than just added at the end.
Are Die-Cut Bookmarks Good for Book Boxes, Authors, and Special Editions?+
Die-cut bookmarks are a brilliant fit for book boxes, authors, publishers, illustrators, Bookstagram creators, and special edition launches because the shape can connect directly to the story.
A fantasy release might suit a sword, moon, dragon scale, or potion bottle shape. A sci-fi book could work well with a planet or spaceship outline. Romance, gothic, children’s, historical, and cosy mystery designs can all feel much more memorable when the bookmark shape supports the theme.
If you’re selling the bookmarks or including them as part of a limited-edition product, the shape can make them feel more collectable than a standard rectangular bookmark. We’d suggest treating the shape as part of the artwork, not just an extra finishing option.
