Large signs require special handling during transit to ensure they arrive in excellent condition. To reduce the risk of damage and provide a safer delivery experience, signs larger than 1220mm may be supplied in multiple panels.
Our production team will position the panel joins to minimise their visual impact wherever possible. Splitting larger signs also makes them easier to transport, handle and install while helping maintain the highest product quality on arrival.
If you require your sign as a single, unjoined panel, you're welcome to collect your order from our Huddersfield production facility or arrange your own courier. Please contact our team before placing your order so we can discuss the available options.
Shaped foam board printing combines full-colour print with a custom-cut outer contour instead of the usual square or rectangle. We can follow a brand mark, illustration, product silhouette or simple geometric outline to create lightweight display pieces for retail promotions, exhibitions, events, photo opportunities and interior decoration. The result is a rigid printed board, not a self-adhesive sticker or a structural sign.
We can produce circles, arches, hearts, speech bubbles, arrows, letters and many other bespoke foam board shapes. Smooth, continuous contours are usually the most reliable and give the cleanest finished edge. Very narrow projections, sharp internal corners and clusters of tiny details may be too fragile or difficult to cut accurately, so send us the proposed outline if you are unsure. We will review its feasibility before production.
Yes. Custom logo-shaped foam boards, character cut-outs and product-shaped displays are all possible when the silhouette forms a practical, connected piece. A clean vector outline gives us the clearest cutting path. If hair, fingers, lettering or other details create thin sections, we may recommend simplifying the contour or adding a small border so the finished display is stronger and easier to handle.
Detail that looks clear on screen does not always make a durable full-size cut-out. Broad curves and generous connections work better than tiny notches, acute points or long, thin extensions. The practical level of detail depends on the overall dimensions, board thickness and intended display method. We assess the cut path as part of artwork checking and will discuss changes if an area is likely to be fragile or produce an untidy edge.
Some internal openings may be possible, but they need to be assessed individually. Their size, position and distance from the outer edge can affect the strength of the board, while multiple or intricate apertures may not be suitable. Mark every requested opening clearly as a cut path and send the artwork before relying on it in the design. We will confirm what can be produced and may suggest a printed effect instead of a physical hole.
Show the exact finished contour with a 1pt magenta line on a separate artwork layer or separate page. Use one closed, continuous path and make it clearly distinguishable from the printed design. Do not add several competing outlines or use a soft image edge as the cutting instruction. Our guide explains how to supply artwork for die and kiss cutting.
Extend the background 2mm beyond the custom cut line so a slight cutting tolerance cannot leave an unprinted edge. Keep text, logos, faces and other important details at least 50mm inside the cut edge, particularly around points, curves and narrow sections. Our guide to printing bleed shows why that extra image area is needed.
Choose single- or double-sided printing from the options available in the calculator. A double-sided cut-out can work well where people approach from more than one direction, but the reverse artwork must use the correct orientation and follow the same outer contour. Cutting and print placement have normal production tolerances, so avoid thin borders and designs that require the two sides to align exactly at the edge.
Not automatically. An irregular foam board cut-out needs a suitable stand, strut, base, frame or fixing chosen for its height, centre of gravity and environment. A tall figure, narrow base or off-centre shape can topple even though the board itself is lightweight. Tell us how you intend to display it before finalising the contour, and ask your display installer to confirm that the support is stable and appropriate for the public setting.
Depending on the design, shaped foam board can be supported on an easel, fitted to a compatible display strut or base, framed, suspended, or fixed to a flat interior surface. The correct method depends on the board size, weight, balance, duration and location. Use fixings designed for both the board and the supporting surface, keep them clear of the printed face where possible, and have freestanding or overhead displays installed safely by a competent person.
We recommend shaped foam board primarily for indoor displays. Wind can catch an irregular outline, while moisture, prolonged sunlight and temperature changes can affect the board, print and fixings. Lamination can protect the printed face from handling and light surface marks, but it does not turn indoor foam board into a weatherproof or wind-rated sign. Yes. Send us the required finished size, wording, brand assets, images, intended use and a sketch or reference showing the shape you have in mind. Our in-house design team can prepare the printed layout and a practical cutting contour, subject to the design service selected and cutting feasibility. Supply a PDF, JPG or fully packaged Adobe Illustrator file in CMYK, with raster images at a minimum of 72dpi at the final printed size. Vector artwork is particularly helpful for the cut contour. Include the 2mm bleed, 50mm safe area and separate magenta cut line, and outline or package fonts and linked images where relevant. Yes. We send a digital proof before production. Check the printed content, dimensions, orientation and complete cutting contour, including any internal openings. Production starts only after you confirm that the silhouette is correct. The calculator shows the current turnaround, with dispatch available in as little as two working days from proof approval on eligible specifications. Design work, amendments and delivery are additional.
