Holographic foil printing is a high-impact metallic finish that reflects multiple colours as light moves across the surface. Unlike single-colour foils, holographic foil creates a dynamic rainbow effect that changes depending on angle and lighting.
Holographic foil is ideal for designs that need to stand out immediately, making it popular for creative branding, event print, promotional campaigns and premium packaging. Explore our full range of metallic foil printing options to find the right product for your design.
Holographic foil printing is a finishing process where a reflective holographic foil layer is applied to the surface of paper or material. Unlike ink, the foil is applied on top of a laminated surface, creating a smooth, light-reactive finish that shifts colour when viewed from different angles.
Digital foil printing allows holographic foil to be applied without the need for metal dies, making it suitable for short runs, fine detail and variable designs. Holographic foil is one of several metallic finishes available, and you can compare it with other options in our foil colours guide.
Holographic foil is chosen for maximum visual impact. It reflects multiple tones, creating movement and depth that cannot be achieved with standard metallic finishes.
Holographic foil is often used to:
Create eye-catching promotional materials
Add dynamic detail to logos and typography
Enhance limited edition or creative packaging
Deliver a bold, contemporary design aesthetic
Because holographic foil reacts to light, it works especially well for designs that benefit from movement and attention.
Holographic foil performs best on smooth paper stocks, where the foil bonds cleanly and produces sharp edges. Silk, gloss, Colorplan and colourcore papers are excellent choices for achieving a crisp, reflective finish.
Uncoated and recycled papers create a softer contrast, slightly muting the intensity of the holographic effect while maintaining the reflective quality. Holographic foil can also be applied to packaging board and selected sticker materials for premium packaging and labelling applications.
For full guidance on choosing the right stock, see our foil paper stocks and materials guide.
