The Basics
- Allow 0.08" (2mm) of bleed around all artwork for cutting tolerances.
- Format all artwork to CMYK.
- Set your resolution to a minimum of 300DPI.
- Supply your artwork in PDF, JPG or fully packaged AI formats.
- Keep all text, logos and foreground images within a 0.1" (3mm) safe zone from the cut edge.

We have 3 different types of fold for our folded business cards – half fold, zig-zag fold, and roll fold. The half fold has a crease line straight down the center of your card, leaving one panel on either side. The zig-zag folds left, right, left, opening to be a similar shape to a zig zag or letter Z. The roll fold, folds in on itself, from the right inwards, and is described as being similar to the letter C once opened.

I started a small business and wanted to get some custom business cards made. I didn't want to go with the average run of the mill business cards, so I requested some free samples to see what my options were. I learned about card thickness, soft touch vs velvet touch, foil printing, QR codes. I then used AI to make a graphic of my business card and sent it out to get quotes. I dont know about graphic programs and what it takes to make a business card, so when they wanted me to make overlays of what i wanted foil printed, I had no Idea how to do that. But Alex, from Aura Print, said they had a great in house design team that could handle it for a small fee. So i had them take my business card, do what they needed to do to it so they could print it. Alex kept me up to date with the progress, sent me graphics to approve, and then it was off to print. I was a bit worried about shipping to the USA from the UK, but it arrived with in a few days from shipping.

Before you print, be sure to read their very detailed page that shows and lists the differences between paper and finish types. I went with recycled paper, and the colors of my print are less vibrant than the design file—just like they said it would be!

I custom designed an invitation suite for a retirement party, and first worked with Aura on my save-the-dates before doing a larger order. I was blown away by the lightning-fast proofing process, and then the incredibly quick printing. Both orders included custom foiling (which I could not find for a better price point anywhere, especially here in the US). We graphic designers know that human creativity is the core of what we do, which is why I was so appreciative that I was working with fellow humans through this process, and not through some AI. Further, the shipping process was spectacular. Whereas many US-based businesses were offering week-long SHIPPING times (excluding printing), Aura offers as its default UPS Express shipping for the US. As a result, their shipments have a 2-day transit time (for me, in a smaller city, but would be overnight for major metros), and are guaranteed by UPS. Having traversed the world of e-commerce shipping, nothing brings me greater relief than to see UPS as a shipping option. Additionally, and quite importantly for my fellow US designers, because my order consisted of what could reasonably be described as printed marketing materials, they should not be subject to tariffs. The shipping department at Aura made sure that the customs information was filled out correctly, leaving me with no duties to pay, for which I am eternally grateful. Awed by the quality of my save-the-dates, proceeding with the rest of my suite was a no-brainer, which included a main invite, detail card, and reply card. The turnaround time was similarly rapid, and the quality of the work simply unmatched. To all designers, but especially those in the US, do not let the idea of an international shipper stop you.
