Double-sided A5 silk finish 350gsm invitations, fo... Double-sided A5 silk finish 350gsm invitations, foil text over printed image backgrounds. Excellent help from the website enabled me to create the necessary files for uploading from scratch. I needed to clarify a couple of requirements (noob tech questions), but after the phone call with the excellently informative and patient customer support, all was clear. Shared the files via Google, digital proof the next day, invitations arrived a week later (standard turnaround). Excellent quality! The packaging was exceptional, so the 100 invitations were perfect on arrival N.B. a signed-for delivery allows you to inspect the package and sign for damage, if you see any. Very pleased indeed with the product and process, so I am more than happy to recommend Aura Print!

What Shape Can My Die-Cut Invitations Be?
We can die-cut invitations into lots of custom shapes, from simple arches and circles through to house-shaped invites, cake-shaped birthday invitations, ticket-style cards, product shapes for store launches, and event-themed outlines.
That said, some shapes work better than others. Smooth curves, clear outlines, and shapes without too many tiny cut-out details usually produce the cleanest result. If your design has very fine points, narrow sections, lots of tight corners, or a very complex silhouette, we’d recommend getting in touch with our team before placing your order so we can check whether the shape is suitable.
If we think your chosen shape may cause issues during production, we’ll let you know and suggest small adjustments to help make the final invitation stronger, cleaner, and easier to cut.
How Do I Supply Artwork for Die-Cut Invitations?
For die-cut invitation printing, we need both your printed artwork and your cut shape supplied clearly.
The cut shape should be supplied as a separate 1pt stroke, not merged into the printed design. This allows our team to see exactly where the invitation needs to be cut. You’ll also need to include bleed around the full shape, so the print continues slightly beyond the cut line and helps avoid unwanted white edges.
It’s also important to keep key text, logos, names, dates, and important artwork safely away from the cut line. Die-cutting involves a little production movement, so anything too close to the edge could look uneven once finished.
If you’re setting up the file yourself, our guide on how to supply artwork for kiss and die cutting explains how cut lines and artwork areas should be prepared.
Can I Print Both Sides of My Die-Cut Invitation?
Yes, you can choose single-sided or double-sided printing for your die-cut invitations.
Double-sided die-cut printing is useful if you want the front to focus on the main event design while the reverse includes extra details such as timings, venue information, RSVP wording, dress code, gift notes, or a short message. With die-cut invitations, the front shape is mirrored on the reverse, so the back artwork needs to be designed around the same outline.
We’d recommend keeping both sides balanced and avoiding important details too close to the edges, especially if your invitation has curves, points, or an unusual shape.
Which Paper Works Best for Die-Cut Invitations?
The best paper for die-cut invitations depends on the shape, design, and finish you want.
At Aura Print, we have selected the paper options we believe work best for die-cut invites, including quality silk, gloss, recycled, and uncoated stocks. A sturdier paper usually helps custom-shaped invitations feel more substantial, especially if the shape has wider open areas or needs to hold up well when handled.
For very intricate shapes, paper choice becomes even more important. Some heavily textured papers can be beautiful, but they may not suit every cut shape or finishing option. If your invite is unusually detailed, it’s worth checking with us before ordering.
If you’re comparing paper types, our guide to different types of printing paper explains how different stocks can affect the finished result, while our guide to silk, gloss, and uncoated paper covers our entire paper catalog in more detail.
Do My Die-Cut Invitations Need to Be Laminated?
Die-cut invitations do not always need to be laminated, and you can choose no laminate if that suits your design.
We also offer matte, gloss, and soft-touch lamination where suitable. Lamination can help protect the printed surface and can give the invitation a more finished look, especially if the design uses heavier color coverage or will be handled a lot before the event.
With some thicker papers or more complex die-cut shapes, our team may recommend a laminate to help protect the invitation during production. If that’s the case, we’ll let you know during the proofing stage so you can make the right call before anything goes to print.
If you’re unsure whether laminate is worth adding, our guide on lamination and the facts explains how lamination changes printed products.
Can I Print Multiple Different Invitation Designs in the Same Order?
You can split your order across multiple invitation designs, as long as each design uses the same shape, size, paper type, and finish.
This works well if you want several versions of the same die-cut invitation, such as different wording for day and evening guests, different colorways, or a few designs within the same event theme. The important thing is that the production setup stays the same across the order.
If you want different shapes, different paper stocks, or different finishing options for each design, those would need to be ordered separately. That way, each version can be set up and finished correctly.
Can Die-Cut Invitations Include Foil?
Absolutely! At Aura Print, we can add any of our metallic foil colors to die-cut invitations on suitable paper stocks.
Foil can work beautifully on custom-shaped invites because it helps highlight the areas you want guests to notice first, such as names, dates, borders, icons, or small decorative details. It’s especially effective when the foil complements the shape rather than fighting with it.
Not every paper stock is suitable for foil, and very complex die-cut shapes may need a little extra care when combining cutting and foiling. If foil is important to your design, choose your paper stock with that in mind from the start.
If you’re preparing the foil artwork yourself, our guide on setting up artwork for foil printing with examples explains how foil layers should usually be supplied.
Would You Recommend Die-Cut Invitations for Themed Events?
Die-cut invitations are one of our favorite choices for themed events because the shape can instantly hint at what guests are being invited to.
A house shape can work nicely for a housewarming party, a cake shape is great for a birthday, and a ticket shape can help set the tone for a show, party, or awards night. The shape does some of the storytelling before the guest has even read the wording.
We’d suggest keeping the shape tied closely to the event theme rather than choosing something unusual just for the sake of it. When the cut shape, artwork, and wording all work together, the invitation feels far more intentional.
How Do I Avoid Overcomplicating My Die-Cut Invitation Design?
From what we’ve seen, die-cut invitations can become too complicated when the shape has very thin sections, tiny cut-outs, sharp points, or lots of tight internal corners.
Those details can be difficult to cut cleanly and may make the finished invitation weaker or more likely to catch when handled. A die-cut invitation still needs to be practical, especially if it will be mailed, handed out, or placed inside an envelope.
If you have a really detailed shape in mind, send it to us before ordering, and we’ll take a look to make sure it’s realistic and doable. In many cases, small changes to the outline can keep the same overall idea while making the invitation much better suited to production.
Will Die-Cut Invitations Fit Standard Envelopes?
That depends on the finished size and shape of your invites.
Some die-cut invitations can fit standard envelopes if the dimensions are based on a common invite size. More unusual shapes may need a larger envelope, especially if the design has curves, points, or wider sections that extend beyond a standard rectangular format.
Before ordering, we’d recommend thinking about the full mailing process. The invitation may look amazing on its own, but it still needs to fit comfortably inside an envelope without bending, catching, or feeling too tight. If you’re unsure, our team can help you think through the shape and size before production.
