Our handy paper thickness guide below shows where you may find different thickness of paper within the world of print, to grow your understanding of each of our paper types.
What Is PT Thickness?
PT is the abbreviation of points and is the unit of measurement used to represent the paper thickness of each of our paper types. Each of our lovely paper stocks is measured in points and has its’ own unique PT number, with some paper stocks having up to five different PT numbers.
The PT or points number is calculated by measuring the paper thickness using calipers. The paper is clamped within the caliper, which reads the depth of the paper in inches. This measurement is then converted into points (PT), with each point representing 1/1000th of an inch. For example, 7pt paper thickness represents papers that are 0.0007 inches thick.
Therefore, the higher the PT number the thicker the paper.
