How To Print Playing Card Boxes

If you’re looking to print your own custom playing card deck, then chances are you are also wanting playing card boxes to fit your cards inside. Not only do playing card boxes protect your cards, but they are also a beautiful and professional way to package your deck. Keeping your cards safely together is essential if you are looking to resell your tarot card decks later on.

We strive to provide as many customizable printing options as possible, with our playing cards and playing card boxes being no exception. Whether you would like 50 or over 2000 boxes, velvety soft touch lamination, or metallic foiled boxes, we have an endless choice of options for your playing card boxes. With so much choice, you’re sure to create the perfect box for your decks of playing cards.

Speaking of the perfect box, our playing card boxes can be made to measure so that your card decks fit like a glove inside. We’ve even provided a handy chart of box sizes below, taking the guesswork away from choosing the right size for your new playing card boxes.

What Is A Card Tuck Box?

A card tuck box is another name for a playing card box or packaging. The tuck part of the name comes from the way the lid of the playing card box tucks itself into the top of the packaging to close itself. You essentially tuck in the lid flap for a secure closing mechanism.

How Big Is A Playing Card Box?

Playing card boxes can be found in a variety of different sizes. From the very small to the rather tall, there is not a one size fits all approach to playing card box sizes. But there are some playing card box sizes that crop up more than others. These are the poker card playing card box and tarot card playing card box. You’ve most likely seen one of these box types in person before.

As these boxes are the most popular playing card box sizes, we’ve created pre-sized options for them within our box printing, that can be easily selected when placing an order. Let’s have a look at what each of these pre-sized boxes are designed to hold inside.

Standard or Poker Card Playing Card Box

Probably our most popular playing card box size, the standard – or poker card playing card box – is designed to fit 52 cards or 54 cards if you’re including joker cards within your deck. Standard playing cards are 64mm x 89mm, so we have made this box slightly bigger at (W)66mm x (H)91mm x (D)19mm so that your cards fit snuggly inside.

Tall or Tarot Card Playing Card Box

Looking to print your own deck of tarot cards? Then our tall or tarot card playing card box is the right choice. This box is designed to fit the classic tarot card deck – 78 cards with 22 major arcana and 56 minor arcana – inside. Our pre-sized tarot card playing card box measures (W)72mm x (H)122mm x (D)28mm, providing enough room to easily insert and remove your deck.

Playing Card Box Dimensions

As mentioned at the beginning of this blog, our playing card boxes can be made to measure. We know that you might not be wanting one of the templated sizes, and instead want a completely custom box to fit your playing card decks.

To work out the size box you would be needing, first you need to take the width and the height of the cards you would like inside. To these measurements, add 2mm, to make your box slightly larger than the cards inside. Without this additional 2mm, your box will be exactly the same width as your cards which will need to be forced to fit inside.

Next, you need to work out the depth. Fortunately for you, we have done the work here. Simply refer to the chart below to find the depth you will be needing for your playing card box.

Playing Card Tuck Box Templates

To make things simple, we’ve created a range of playing card box templates that can be downloaded for our playing card printing page. These templates match our standard sized boxes, showing the flat net of the box before it is to be folded.

If you would like a custom sized template to be created, get in touch with our team via email. Provide us the number of playing cards in a deck, the size of the cards, the paper the cards are to be printed on, and whether the cards have a lamination or not, and our team can produce a template to match.

While you're here, why not learn how to design your playing cards in 7 steps, browse our metallic foil playing cards, and figure out your playing card dimensions before getting started.
