Die Cut Invitation Printing for Custom Shaped Invites

Die cut invitation printing creates custom shaped invitations that follow the outline of your design rather than a standard rectangle. It exists for themed events, creative announcements, and memorable celebrations where the shape itself helps introduce the occasion before guests read a word.

Let our Design Team Work their Magic

We understand not everyone is a professional designer. You may not know your RGB from your CMYK or your bleed from your trap. That's why we have our in-house team on hand to craft the design of your dreams. All designs are individually created by our talented bunch. Yes, that's right, real people!

Production Turnaround

We aim to produce and dispatch all orders as quickly and efficiently as possible. As every product is custom printed to order, turnaround times can vary depending on artwork approval, quantity, finishing options and the complexity of the project. More specialist products and finishes, including duplex, triplex, die cut and foiled items, will usually require additional production time due to the extra processes involved.

As you configure your product, the online calculator updates in real time to show an estimated turnaround based on your chosen options. Once you approve your proof, our team will email you a dispatch estimate for your specific order. This estimate covers the production time from proof approval to dispatch and does not include courier delivery time.

Rush Production

If you’re working towards a tight deadline, we also offer a Rush Service at checkout which means you can reduce the production turnaround by 1 business day on eligible products.

Quality Checks and Dispatch

Although we are based in the UK, our courier partners provide fast, tracked delivery across Canada. Orders are carefully printed, finished, quality checked and prepared for dispatch before being sent across the Atlantic.

Canadian shipping is charged from CA$24.95. Delivery to major urban areas in southern Canada typically takes 1–2 business days after dispatch, while deliveries to rural, remote, northern and territorial locations may take an estimated 2–3 business days or longer, depending on location and courier coverage.

Delivery Options and Returns

You can find full information on delivery times, shipping options, courier services, and return policies on our Delivery & Returns page.

What Shapes Can My Die Cut Invitations Be?

Die cut invitations can be produced in a wide variety of custom shapes, giving you the flexibility to create invitations that reflect the theme or style of your event. Popular options include arches, circles, ticket-style invitations, house-shaped designs, floral silhouettes, and completely bespoke shapes created around your artwork or branding.

For the best results, we recommend choosing designs with clean outlines, smooth curves, and well-defined edges. While intricate shapes are possible, very fine details, narrow sections, sharp points, or complex internal cut-outs may need to be simplified to improve durability and ensure a clean, accurate cut.

If you’re unsure whether your design is suitable, our team will be happy to review your artwork before production. Should we identify any areas that could affect the finished result, we’ll recommend practical adjustments to help ensure your die cut invitations are both visually striking and durable.

How Do I Supply Artwork for Die Cut Invitations?

If you’re supplying your own artwork, you’ll need to provide both the printed design and the die cut outline. Keeping these as separate elements allows our production team to accurately position the cut line and ensure your invitations are manufactured exactly as intended.

The die cut outline should be supplied as a separate 1 pt stroke and not incorporated into the printed artwork. Your file should also include bleed around the entire shape, allowing the background or artwork to extend beyond the cut line for a clean, professional finish once the invitations have been trimmed.

When creating your design, leave sufficient space between the cut line and important elements such as names, dates, text, logos, and illustrations. This helps account for normal production tolerances and ensures the finished invitations remain balanced and easy to read. If you’re preparing your own files, our guide to how to supply artwork for kiss and die cutting explains how to set up cut lines, bleed, and artwork correctly before submitting your design.

Can I Print Both Sides of My Die Cut Invitation?

Yes. We offer both single-sided and double-sided printing for die cut invitations, giving you the flexibility to include as much information as your event requires while maintaining a clean, professional design.

Single-sided invitations are ideal for simpler layouts where the key event details can be presented on the front. If you’d like additional space for RSVP information, venue directions, event schedules, dress codes, accommodation details, or a personal message, double-sided printing allows you to separate the practical information from the main invitation design.

Because the die cut shape is carried through to both sides, it’s important to design the front and back with the same outline in mind. We recommend leaving comfortable margins around the edges and keeping important text and artwork within the safe area, particularly on invitations with intricate shapes or decorative contours. This helps ensure both sides of your invitation remain balanced, attractive, and easy to read.

Which Paper Works Best for Die Cut Invitations?

The best paper for your die cut invitations depends on the style of your event, the complexity of the shape, and any premium finishes you’d like to include. Choosing the right stock helps ensure your invitations not only look impressive but also retain their strength and shape during handling and mailing.

For invitations featuring vibrant colours, photography, or detailed artwork, silk paper delivers crisp print quality and excellent colour reproduction. Uncoated and recycled papers offer a softer, more natural appearance that’s ideal for weddings, baby showers, and rustic or contemporary designs. If you’re looking for something distinctive, our Colourplan and specialty paper stocks add unique colours and textures that help your invitations stand out.

More intricate die cut designs can benefit from thicker, sturdier paper stocks, while some textured papers may not be compatible with every finishing option, such as metallic foil or lamination. If you’re unsure which material is best for your project, our team will be happy to recommend the most suitable option based on your design. To compare the available papers, read our guides to different types of printing paper and gloss, silk, and uncoated paper.

Do My Die-Cut Invitations Need to Be Laminated?

Not necessarily. Die cut invitations can be printed with or without lamination, depending on the paper stock you’ve selected, the style of your design, and the finish you’re looking to achieve.

If you’d like additional protection or a different surface finish, compatible paper stocks can be laminated with matte, gloss, or soft-touch lamination. Gloss lamination enhances colour vibrancy, matte lamination provides a smooth, understated appearance, and soft-touch lamination creates a luxurious, velvety feel that’s particularly popular for premium invitations. Lamination can also help protect the printed surface from scuffs and everyday handling.

Some paper stocks and finishing options aren’t compatible with lamination, so the best choice depends on your invitation specification. If we believe lamination would improve the durability or appearance of your die cut invitations, our prepress team will discuss the available options with you during the artwork review stage. To learn more about the different laminate finishes, read our guide to lamination and the facts.

Can I Print Multiple Invitation Designs in the Same Order?

Yes. You can include multiple invitation designs within the same order, provided they all share the same finished size, die cut shape, paper stock, and print specification. Keeping these production elements consistent allows us to manufacture the invitations efficiently while giving you the flexibility to personalise your designs.

This is a popular option for events that require different versions of the same invitation, such as day and evening guests, invitations with different wording, alternative colour schemes, or personalised designs for separate groups of recipients. As long as the production specification remains the same, multiple artwork variations can usually be combined within a single order.

If you’d like to use different shapes, paper stocks, sizes, or finishing options such as metallic foil or lamination, these will need to be ordered separately. This ensures each version is produced using the correct setup and receives the appropriate finishing process for the best possible result.

Can Die Cut Invitations Include Foil?

Absolutely. Metallic foil can be added to die cut invitations printed on compatible paper stocks, creating a striking combination of custom shapes and luxurious reflective finishes. Foil is an excellent way to emphasise important design elements while enhancing the overall presentation of your invitations.

We offer a choice of 12 metallic foil colours, including Gold, Silver, Rose Gold, Copper, Pink, Violet, Red, Blue, Teal, Green, Black Chrome, and Holographic. Foil works particularly well for highlighting names, dates, monograms, decorative borders, floral details, and illustrations, allowing these features to become the focal point of your design.

Because metallic foil requires a smooth laminated surface, it’s only available on compatible paper stocks. More intricate die cut designs may also require additional consideration to ensure both the foil and cut shape achieve the highest possible finish. If you’re creating your own artwork, our guide to setting up artwork for foil printing with examples explains how to prepare your foil layers correctly before production.

Would You Recommend Die Cut Invitations for Themed Events?

Yes. Die cut invitations are an excellent choice for themed events because the shape of the invitation can immediately reflect the occasion and create excitement before your guests even read the details. A thoughtfully chosen silhouette helps reinforce your event theme while making the invitation more memorable.

Custom shapes work particularly well for occasions such as housewarming parties, birthday celebrations, baby showers, holiday events, fundraisers, corporate launches, and award ceremonies. Whether you choose a house, ticket, floral design, product outline, or another bespoke shape, the invitation itself becomes part of the overall experience rather than simply communicating the event details.

For the strongest results, we recommend selecting a shape that complements your artwork and wording rather than competing with it. When the design, paper stock, and die cut shape all work together, the finished invitation feels cohesive, distinctive, and professionally produced.

How Do I Avoid Overcomplicating My Die-Cut Invitation Design?

The most effective die cut invitations are often the simplest. Clean outlines, balanced proportions, and well-considered shapes tend to produce the best results, creating invitations that are both visually striking and practical to print, handle, and mail.

Designs with very narrow sections, sharp points, small internal cut-outs, or highly intricate details may require adjustments to improve durability and achieve a cleaner finished cut. Keeping the shape simple doesn’t mean limiting your creativity - it simply helps ensure the finished invitation is strong, attractive, and accurately reproduced.

If you’re planning a more complex design, we’re happy to review your artwork before production. In many cases, a few small refinements to the outline can preserve your original concept while making the invitation easier to manufacture and more durable once printed.

Will Die Cut Invitations Fit Standard Envelopes?

Whether your die cut invitations will fit a standard envelope depends on their finished dimensions rather than the shape alone. Many die cut invitations are designed within standard invitation sizes, allowing them to fit comfortably into commonly available envelopes.

If you’ve chosen a more intricate or oversized shape, it’s important to consider the invitation’s widest and tallest points, as these determine the envelope size you’ll need. If you’re sending an invitation suite with RSVP cards, information cards, belly bands, or other inserts, you’ll also need to allow enough space for the complete package.

Before purchasing envelopes in larger quantities, we recommend checking the finished dimensions of your invitations and any accompanying stationery. Choosing an envelope with a little extra room can help protect your invitations during mailing and ensure they arrive looking their best. If you’re unsure which envelope size will be most suitable, our team will be happy to offer guidance before your invitations go into production.
