Let our Design Team Work their Magic

We understand not everyone is a professional designer. You may not know your RGB from your CMYK or your bleed from your trap. That's why we have our in-house team on hand to craft the design of your dreams. All designs are individually created by our talented bunch. Yes, that's right, real people!

Production Turnaround

We aim to produce and dispatch all orders as quickly and efficiently as possible. As every product is custom printed to order, turnaround times can vary depending on artwork approval, quantity, finishing options and the complexity of the project. More specialist products and finishes, including duplex, triplex, die cut and foiled items, will usually require additional production time due to the extra processes involved.

As you configure your product, the online calculator updates in real time to show an estimated turnaround based on your chosen options. Once you approve your proof, our team will email you a dispatch estimate for your specific order. This estimate covers the production time from proof approval to dispatch and does not include courier delivery time.

Rush Production

If you’re working towards a tight deadline, we also offer a Rush Service at checkout which means you can reduce the production turnaround by 1 business day on eligible products.

Quality Checks and Dispatch

Although we are based in the UK, our courier partners provide fast, tracked delivery across Canada. Orders are carefully printed, finished, quality checked and prepared for dispatch before being sent across the Atlantic.

Canadian shipping is charged from CA$24.95. Delivery to major urban areas in southern Canada typically takes 1–2 business days after dispatch, while deliveries to rural, remote, northern and territorial locations may take an estimated 2–3 business days or longer, depending on location and courier coverage.

Delivery Options and Returns

You can find full information on delivery times, shipping options, courier services, and return policies on our Delivery & Returns page.

What Shape Can My Die-Cut Bookmarks Be?

At Aura Print, we can cut custom die-cut bookmarks into almost any shape, from simple arches and rounded silhouettes to swords, planets, moons, potion bottles, animals, florals, shields, character outlines, and genre-inspired designs.

The best shapes are those that look eye-catching while still working well as bookmarks. Smooth curves, clear outlines, and sturdy sections generally cut much more cleanly than designs with lots of tiny gaps, thin stems, sharp points, or delicate cut-out details.

If you have a particularly ambitious shape in mind, send it to us before placing your order and we’ll be happy to take a look. We’ll let you know if anything needs simplifying and suggest small changes that keep the same concept while making the finished bookmark stronger, cleaner, and easier to use.

If you’re still planning your artwork, our guide on designing your own bookmark is a great place to start for ideas on shape, layout, and design.

What Is a Cut Line on a Die-Cut Bookmark?

A cut line is the outline that tells us exactly where your bookmark should be cut.

For die-cut bookmarks, the cut line is just as important as the artwork itself. It should be supplied as a separate outline, usually as a 1 pt stroke, so our production team can clearly identify the finished shape. It should not be flattened into the artwork or hidden within the design.

Think of it as your bookmark’s final silhouette. If the cut line is clean, smooth, and practical, the finished bookmark is much more likely to look great and stand up to regular use. If the line is too detailed, too jagged, or too close to important artwork, we may recommend a few adjustments before production.

If you’re preparing your own artwork, our guide on how to supply artwork for die cutting explains how cut lines and artwork areas should be set up correctly.

How Do I Supply Artwork for a Die-Cut Bookmark?

For die-cut bookmark printing, we need both your artwork and your cut line supplied clearly.

Your artwork should include bleed around the entire shape, not just around a rectangle. This means the design should extend slightly beyond the cut line, following the outline of the bookmark, so you don’t end up with unwanted white edges after cutting.

You’ll also need to keep important design elements safely inside the cut line. Names, faces, QR codes, logos, fine text, and small illustration details shouldn’t sit too close to the edge. Die cutting involves slight production movement, so leaving a safe margin helps ensure the finished bookmark looks clean and professionally finished.

If you’re unsure whether your file is set up correctly, simply send it to us after placing your order. Our team will check for any obvious issues before your bookmarks go into production.

If you’re preparing your own files, our guide to bleed explains why bleed and safe zones are so important.

How Detailed Can My Die Cut Bookmark Shape Be?

Die cut bookmarks can feature highly creative shapes, but it’s important to strike the right balance between visual impact and durability. A well-designed bookmark should not only look distinctive but also be strong enough to withstand regular use without bending or catching on the pages of a book.

Very thin sections, sharp points, small internal cut-outs, and narrow connecting areas can make a bookmark more difficult to manufacture and more vulnerable to damage over time. For example, a sword-shaped bookmark can be very effective, provided the blade is wide enough to remain rigid, while floral or intricate designs may benefit from simplifying very small details to improve strength.

If your bookmark is intended as a collectible, promotional item, or display piece, more intricate shapes are often possible. However, if it’s designed for everyday reading, smoother outlines and sturdier proportions will usually provide the best user experience. Before production begins, our team will review your artwork and let you know if any refinements are recommended to improve the finished result.

If you’d like to understand why small production tolerances can be more noticeable on complex shapes, our guide to digital print movement tolerances explains what to expect.

Can My Die Cut Bookmarks Have Internal Cut-Outs?

Yes, internal cut-outs can be incorporated into die cut bookmarks, provided they’re designed with durability and production in mind. Features such as stars, circles, hearts, crescent moons, or other simple openings can create an eye-catching effect without compromising the strength of the finished bookmark.

Very intricate internal details, narrow bridges, or lace-like patterns can be more challenging to produce and may reduce the bookmark’s durability during everyday use. In many cases, a bold outer silhouette combined with one or two carefully positioned internal cut-outs creates a cleaner, stronger, and more practical design than one with numerous small openings.

If you’re planning a bookmark with internal cut-outs, our team will be happy to review your artwork before production. If we identify any areas that could affect the finished quality or strength, we’ll recommend practical refinements that preserve your original concept while ensuring the bookmark is suitable for printing and regular use.

Will a Die Cut Bookmark Still Work Properly Inside a Book?

Yes, provided the shape has been designed with everyday use in mind. A well-designed die cut bookmark should slide smoothly between the pages, sit comfortably inside the book, and remain practical without damaging the pages or catching when the book is opened or closed.

While bold silhouettes and creative shapes can make a bookmark more memorable, very wide designs, sharp projections, or delicate edges may be less practical for regular use. In many cases, a distinctive outline with clean, well-balanced contours offers the perfect combination of visual appeal, durability, and ease of use.

If you’re creating bookmarks for authors, publishers, bookstores, subscription boxes, or retail sales, it’s worth thinking about how readers will use them every day. Before production begins, our team will review your artwork and let you know if there are any areas that could be refined to improve both the appearance and functionality of the finished bookmark.

Can Die Cut Bookmarks Be Printed Double-Sided?

Yes. We offer both single-sided and double-sided printing for die cut bookmarks, giving you the flexibility to create a design that’s both attractive and practical. Double-sided printing is a popular choice for bookmarks that combine eye-catching artwork with additional branding or information.

Because the die cut shape is identical on both sides, the front and reverse artwork should be designed to work within the same outline. Whether your bookmark features an arch, character, logo, or another custom silhouette, both sides should be planned around the finished shape to achieve a balanced and professional appearance.

Many customers use the reverse to include author details, book titles, websites, social media links, QR codes, illustrations, or inspirational quotations, while others continue the artwork across both sides for a seamless design. Whatever approach you choose, we recommend keeping important elements within the safe area to ensure they remain clear and well positioned after trimming.

Can I Add a Hole to a Die Cut Bookmark for Ribbon or Tassels?

Yes. We can add a 5 mm drilled hole to your die cut bookmarks, making it easy to attach ribbons, tassels, twine, or packaging ties. This popular finishing option adds both decorative appeal and functionality, helping transform your bookmark into a memorable keepsake or premium retail product.

Because every die cut bookmark has a unique shape, the position of the drilled hole is carefully considered during production. For the strongest result, the hole should be placed in a solid section of the design with enough surrounding material to maintain the bookmark’s strength and durability. If you already have a preferred hole position, simply include it in your artwork and we’ll review it as part of our prepress checks.

Planning the hole position as part of your initial design usually produces the best outcome, particularly for author merchandise, wedding favours, collectible bookmarks, memorial keepsakes, and gift products where ribbons or tassels form part of the finished presentation.

Are Die Cut Bookmarks a Good Choice for Book Boxes, Authors, and Special Editions?

Absolutely. Die cut bookmarks are an excellent choice for authors, publishers, independent bookstores, book subscription boxes, and special edition releases because the custom shape can become an extension of the story itself. A distinctive silhouette helps create a memorable keepsake that readers are far more likely to keep long after they’ve finished the book.

Custom shapes can be tailored to suit almost any genre or theme. Fantasy novels might feature dragons, swords, or crescent moons, while science fiction designs could incorporate planets, spacecraft, or futuristic symbols. Historical fiction, romance, children’s books, and mystery novels can all benefit from a bookmark shape that complements the artwork and reinforces the atmosphere of the story.

Whether you’re selling bookmarks as merchandise or including them with a special edition book, a unique die cut design adds perceived value and helps create a more collectible product. We recommend designing the bookmark so the shape and artwork work together as a single concept, creating a finished piece that’s both practical and memorable. If you’re looking for ideas, our guide to pairing bookmarks with your current read offers plenty of creative inspiration.

Can My Die Cut Bookmark Match My Book, Character, or Genre?

Absolutely. One of the biggest advantages of die cut bookmark printing is the ability to create a custom shape that reflects the story, characters, or overall theme of your book. A thoughtfully designed bookmark becomes more than just a page marker—it becomes a memorable extension of your publication or brand.

Whether you’re promoting a fantasy novel, children’s book, romance, historical fiction, science fiction, or another genre, your bookmark can be shaped to complement the artwork or subject matter. Popular ideas include characters, animals, symbols, objects, or other silhouettes that readers will instantly associate with your book or series, helping create a stronger connection with your audience.

When designing a custom shape, it’s important to balance creativity with practicality. Simple, well-defined silhouettes tend to produce the strongest and most durable bookmarks, particularly if they’ll be used regularly. If your design includes very fine details or delicate sections, our team can recommend small adjustments that preserve the overall concept while ensuring the bookmark prints cleanly and performs well.
